In a league largely dominated by the male folks, The Nigerian Music Industry has over the years experienced quite an impressive upsurge in terms of Female Artists staking a claim to the top spot and what’s more impressive is that they have done that by absolutely holding nothing back.
In 2016, the trend continued with some females doing what they know how to do best – Making great music, killing the shows, getting all the major awards, endorsements and of course, making a lot of mulla!
In the course of this week, notjustOk.com will systematically roll out The Top 5 Female Artists who took 2016 by the scruff of the neck and totally slayed!
So, we continue with The 5 Hottest Female Artists in Nigeria #TheList2016
With Niniola occupying the #5th position and Seyi Shay taking up the #4th spot, we has Simi cementing her place in #3rd, so we’ve got just 2 more amazing queens to go!
Without further delay, at #2 for the year 2016, Mummy Jamil!
2. Tiwa Savage
What’s a comeback without the mention of Doro Diva?? Tiwa Savage came back in 2016 with a BANG!!!
December 2015 saw the release of Tiwa’s “RED” album but it really blew up going into the new year 2016 with the release of one of the lead singles of the album – ‘Standing Ovation”, featuring Olamide. In 2016 proper, Tiwa dropped “If I Start To Talk” which features label mate – Dr. SID, a single off her R.E.D Album and with the video going viral in a matter of weeks, which made the tune one of her best till date.
Although the messy divorce with her ex-husband attempted to put a dent on the wave, Tiwa quickly picked herself up and before we knew it, she surprised everyone when it was announced she just signed a management with ROC Nation – owned by American rapper; Jay Z. A major performance at The One Africa Music Fest, a Beats One Radio Interview, a massive collaboration with Busy Signal for “Key To The City (Remix)”, feature with VIBE NEXT Magazine coupled with a first ever USA Tour in promotion of her album made Tiwa Savage the toast of all this year.
Not stopping at that, she got a MOBO Award nomination and took her tour to other African countries, selling out concert venues and killing it as always. We really cannot wait to see what Tiwa has in store for us in 2017 but this year, she surely slayed.
