Once you hear that sound, you know you’re in for something quite exciting. Mama Africa herself – Yemi Alade stood up to that name in 2016. Whattt???!!!

Number #1 on #TheList back to back!!! 2015 and now 2016!

When it comes to dropping super singles back to back? It’s Yemi Alade! Numerous great videos? Yemi Alade! Outstanding performances all around Africa and the world, selling out several 60 Thousand-capacity stadia? Yemi Alade! Nominations and Awards all around Africa and the world? Yemi Alade!

Yemi is arguably the biggest female artiste in Africa at the moment and her works is a proof of that. Mama Africa as she’s fondly called has now won the MAMA Awards “Female Artiste of the Year” back to back in 2015 and 2016 and with a MOBO Awards nomination, BET Awards nomination and several others, I really do not know who’s done better than this very hardworking African Music Diva.

Starting off the year with “Koffi Anan” freestyle, Yemi moved on to releasing the much talked about “Mama Africa” album in March 2016 and the deluxe version in April, featuring the finest acts in Africa. A Tim Westwood cribs soon followed and then videos off the “Mama Africa” started rolling in like it’s nothing.

Then the ultimate confirmation came from Fader Magazine after naming Yemi Alade athe “Queen of Afrobeats”.

Not relenting on her oars, Yemi Alade came through with a brand new single “Want You” in July, just 4 months after the album and continued with some more videos.

Yemi Alade also scored a big one in 2016 when she was selected as the only African artist to collaborate with other international stars like Jennifer Hudson, Steve Aoki, Pixie Lott, Luan Santana and Tan WeiWei for Shell’s global theme song – “Best Days of My Life”, in promoting #MakeTheFuture aimed at showcasing Shell’s support for emerging entrepreneurs. Did I mentioned the fact that she made some mad cake off that project as well? Yes, she did!

Yemi Alade at the moment is also taking Coke Studio Africa by storm, collaborating with Nyashinski and Nigeria’s Chopstix.

Please, what’s a 2016 in the Nigerian Music Sphere without the mention of Yemi Alade?? This amazing lady held her own and in a league dominated by male artistes. Please, give it up for Mama Africa. Nigeria’s hottest female artist for 2016!
