5 Songs Nigerians Are Listening To Again …

We relate so much to some songs because in more ways than one, they speak to us more than anyone can, and in a funny way, music is one companion we allow to do the talking without arguing or interrupting. Well, the National protest is no news to us, so we decided to ask people what they would like to listen to again in a time like this. What song they can relate to at this moment in the history of Naija and these are some of the songs they came up with;

  1. E Be Like Say by Tuface Idibia and the pioneer of the February 6th protest. Apparently the artiste had started his peaceful protest through his songs, and when better than now should we remind you to listen to it again. Below is the second verse of the song, does it sound like what we should be singing right now?

See, all I want to say is that
They don’t really care about us
Because all they want to do is to get in touch with big bucks
Because they think the money gives them the power
But the power is nothing
If your people cannot get quality education
The power is nothing
If your people keep on dying of disease and starvation
The power is nothing
If your people have no peace (no peace)
The power is nothing
If your people cannot live in unity (eh)
See, why do you keep deceiving the people, my brother, my sister
See, why you make all this people to dey fight one another
Only God can judge you now [x4]
Another year has come
And now you want my vote once more
Oh no

2. E Dey Pain Me  by Blackface, an opposition to the protest. This song talks about the pains we feel in a harsh country where politicians and corruption occupy the same space in dictionary. With all these socio-political songs, one would think Blackface would jump on the protest train, but what do we know?

3. Why E Be Say by P-Square. The twin did not air their views as to where they stand concerning the National protest but their song of course made the list as it is relative to what is happening in Nigeria. It’s asking the question that we all know the answers to… but do we?

[Chorus]
Why e be say anytime we want do wetin we go do
Or say wetin wey we go say (na big lie ei)
The wrong thing be say them no want make we dey do
Wetin we go do or say wetin wey we go say
The right thing be say we supposed to do
Wetin we go do or say wetin wey we go say
Why e be say, the wrong thing be say but the right thing be say

4. Hard Life by Blackface… Yea, you know already know him in this equation, but we couldn’t help but think about this line… “It is a hard life, wey we dey liiiiive o! Ehe… Guess hard life isn’t so hard again.

5.  Craze World by Fela We can’t end this without calling the Godfather of protest, who protested even with his songs. Every track in his albums are songs we can relate to as Nigerians and also as humans, then and very much so now.

Read comments of people concerning the song they would love to hear in a period such as this. Do you agree? If not, what song would you like to suggest so we can add to our playlist?
