The Athletic confirmed the news of the defender being absent from the game on Sunday, August 22nd, 2021. White was part of the Arsenal team that suffered defeat at Brentford in the opening game of the season. Arsenal was without key players in the game at the Community Stadium on Friday, August 13th, 2021.

The Gunners will be without Thomas Partey, Eddie Nketiah, and Alexandre Lacazette but there is a bit of positivity for Arsenal as the club's captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was out of the Brentford game after testing positive to Covid-19 will be available for selection against the Blues.

Chelsea is coming in with the confidence of winning the UEFA Super Cup and a win in the opening league game against Crystal Palace. The Blues will also be with the services of their new signing Romelu Lukaku.
